Lawyer Referral offered at King County Bar Association

Helps people assess their need for legal assistance and refers them to an appropriate lawyer. Clients with verified legal needs are referred to appropriate lawyers in most areas of law, except for military and health law.  American Sign Language interpreters are hired for initial attorney interviews, relay service used for phone interviews. Other languages have intake available by scheduling with the Language Bank.

Hours

M-F, 9am-4:30pm.

Application process

Call or email. CANNOT VISIT IN PERSON.  An intake specialist will assess the needs of the potential client and then refer to an appropriate lawyer or a different program, if needed.

Eligibility

Service is only for clients who can hire a regular fee lawyer.

Fee

Upon referral to a lawyer, there is a non-refundable $10-$45 administrative cost that is taken up front with a Visa/Master Card.  If the client does not have a Visa/Master Card, they can mail in a money order.  The fee does not apply in SSI/SSDI denial cases.  Some attorneys may work on a contingency basis.

Helps callers assess their need for legal assistance and refers them to an appropriate lawyer. Offers legal advocacy/assistance, and in some cases representation, for issues including civil rights, divorce and family law, caregivers seeking custody and other civil legal matters. Coordinates a clinic for Spanish speakers, and a debt and bankruptcy clinic.
